After being collected from the meeting point at the Knysna Waterfront, travel to the Knysna Township for the best view of the famous Knysna Heads. Meet local shop owners who run their businesses out of shipping containers – including a hairdresser, a grocer and the talented cobbler who fixes and makes shoes. Visit the library, chat to some of the kids in the streets, and learn about the Xhosa culture as you continue through the township.
During the morning tour (on school days) pop in at the pre-school. This is a fun, interactive experience where you will be warmly welcomed by the exuberant, laughing children and have a chance to listen to their enthusiastic singing. Refreshments are served at Ella’s Safe House, and, over a cup of tea, the team will teach you some Xhosa phrases and the famous ‘Click Song’ amongst other local favourites. Try your hand on the African drums and get into the true spirit of ‘Emzini’ which translates as ‘being at home’.
