Situated within the South Luangwa National Park and nestled between the Luangwa and Mwamba Rivers, this immersive camp rests on the banks of the river with tall Ebony trees looming overhead. The Luangwa River is home to regular meandering elephant herds and Kaingo enjoys stunning views across the extravagant terrain, including the picturesque Fish Eagle Lagoon. Filled with a myriad of wildlife from leopards to lions, and expansive herds of buffalo and the endemic wildebeest, this supremely relaxed and friendly camp is the ideal setting for spectacular photographic opportunities.
The lounge and dining area sit under a light and airy thatched roof with open sides, a large wooden dining table adorned with romantic lanterns at nightfall. At its heart sits a trunk of an ancient leadwood tree, turned into a beautiful little bar area – and there are plenty of nooks, to allow you to soak in as much wildlife as possible on the river itself. South Luangwa is rivaled to be one of the greatest wildlife areas in Southern Africa, the wildlife numbers and sightings are spectacular – elephants, hippos and crocodiles make use of the riverbank right outside the chalets, and lion, leopard and even wild dog are regulars on game drives. This little hideaway is truly a photographer and birders paradise with over 400 species of birds. Unique animal sightings in South Luangwa include, Thornycroft giraffes, Cookson’s wildebeest and Crawshay’s zebra.
