Hoanib Valley Camp is “clean and green’’, leaving virtually no footprint on this fragile eco-system. The camp has been built in partnership with the Sesfontein Community and the most successful long-term giraffe research organization in the world, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation. Their research not only focuses on the desert-adapted giraffe of the Hoanib, but helps to monitor elephant and general game in the area as well. This ecologically friendly camp sits on the banks of the Obias River, just outside the private Palmwag Concession, and overlooks the ephemeral Hoanib River.
The Hoanib River Valley Concession teems with resident desert adapted wildlife such as elephant, giraffe, zebra, lion and rhino which roam freely through this vast, mountainous and wild landscape. Although parts of the land have been designated ‘concession areas’ tourism is still limited, making a visit to this unspoiled corner even more memorable.
