Guided by the philosophy and mantra of to “touch the earth lightly”, the design of Camp Maru is a deliberate return to the authentic safari camps of days gone by and, with just 6 luxurious tents, it offers an intimate and exclusive safari experience in the Delta. The Camp is shaded by a grove of giant Leadwood trees on the edge of an expansive lagoon, filled with grunting hippos and fringed with waving papyrus.
The vegetation and ecosystems of the area are incredibly varied – from open savannah dotted with acacia trees and grassy floodplains to permanent water channels and small islands to explore by mokoro. This permanent water source attracts many animals and birds, both great and small.
Year-round water and land activities produce exceptional game viewing, with elephant, buffalo and wild dog sightings almost a daily occurrence. A true eco-friendly safari camp, which is fully powered by renewable energy from its solar farm. This private concession is part of NG32 which is 1500 square miles of community-controlled land in the very south of the Delta bordering the Moremi Game Reserve and to the south of Chitabe. As this is a community concession, Camp Maru is involved in various community upliftment projects.
